Mastering 'I Do' in the Present Tense in Levantine Arabic

Marhaba everyone! Welcome back to my channel where we dive deep into learning Levantine Arabic. Today, we're going to focus on mastering a very important verb: "I do" in the present tense. This verb is super useful and is a great way to start forming more complex sentences in Arabic.

Introducing the Verb 'I Do'

Let's start by introducing the verb "I do" in Levantine Arabic. The verb "to do" in Arabic is "saawi" (ساوي). When we want to say "I do" in the present tense, we add a prefix to the root of the verb. So, "I do" becomes "bsaawi" (بساوي). Repeat after me: bsaawi, bsaawi, bsaawi.

Using 'Bsaawi' in Basic Sentences

Now let's put "bsaawi" into some basic sentences so you can see how it's used in context. For instance:

  1. **Ana bsaawi al wajib kull yom** (أنا بساوي الواجب كل يوم) - I do the homework every day.
  2. **Ana bsaawi al shay kull yom** (أنا بساوي الشاي كل يوم) - I make the tea every day.

Note how "bsaawi" is used at the beginning of the sentence, directly after the subject "ana" which means "I" in Arabic.

Practice with More Examples

Let's practice with more examples. Here are a few sentences you can try:

  1. **Ana bsaawi al aamal al yetimi kull yom** (أنا بساوي الأعمال البسيطة كل يوم) - I do simple tasks every day.
  2. **Ana bsaawi al tabikh kull yom** (أنا بساوي الطبخ كل يوم) - I do the cooking every day.
  3. **Ana bsaawi al dars al arabi kull yom** (أنا بساوي الدرس العربي كل يوم) - I do the Arabic lesson every day.

Go ahead and repeat after me and try to come up with your own sentences using "bsaawi".

Common Mistakes to Avoid

It's important to be aware of common mistakes when using "bsaawi". One common mistake is forgetting the prefix 'ba'. Without it, the sentence won't make sense in the present tense. Another common mistake is using the wrong form of the verb for different subjects. Remember that "bsaawi" is specifically for "I do".

Your Turn to Practice

Now it's your turn! Try to construct five sentences using "bsaawi" and share them in the comments below. I'll be checking them and giving feedback. Here are some situations you can describe:

  1. What you do in the morning.
  2. What you do at work or school.
  3. What you do in your free time.
  4. Household chores you do.
  5. Any hobbies you have.

Take your time and practice forming sentences. The more you practice, the better you'll get!
